This string quartet originated from a musical idea that appeared unexpectedly one afternoon. The initial material was very brief, yet it already contained a particular sense of motion and the potential for further development. The idea gradually unfolded from within, following the directions suggested by the material itself.
The continuity of the piece comes primarily from the transformation and redistribution of its thematic material. Fragments appear, pause, overlap, recede, and return in altered forms across different voices. These shifting relationships create a continuously changing sense of time.
What the piece preserves is something closer to the trace of a musical intuition, caught just before it disappeared.
