Order and the Event
The system begins with order: geometry, spatial arrangement, physical rules and an initial set of conditions.
Once the system is set in motion, those conditions begin to interact in ways that cannot be fully prescribed in advance. Collisions, encounters, falling bodies and changes of direction produce outcomes that are contingent rather than fixed.
Chance Structures focuses on this boundary. Structure establishes the conditions; chance determines how the event unfolds.
Coincidence
Coincidence explores encounter as an event inside a constructed real-time system. The work is organised, but the exact moment and character of contact remain open.
The title points to coincidence not as pure randomness, but as the appearance of an event whose particular outcome cannot be completely controlled from within the system that produces it.
Falling Forms
Falling Forms extends the same concern through physical simulation. Repeated forms enter a highly ordered spatial field, then develop through gravity, collision and accumulation.
The result has a strong visual structure, yet its final state is not designed frame by frame. The work allows a controlled system to generate an event that exceeds precise prediction.
Not Randomness Alone
The emphasis is not on randomness for its own sake. Both works depend on deliberately constructed systems. Rules, geometry and spatial organisation remain visible and essential.
What matters is the point at which order becomes capable of producing something that was not fully authored in advance. The event is shaped by the system, but not reduced to a predetermined image.
Structure / Chance
Conditions
Geometry, repetition, spatial organisation, simulation rules and the initial state define the field in which the work can happen.
Event
Collision, encounter, deviation and accumulation determine how that field develops once the system begins to run.
